Training focuses on helping staff provide supports that honor each person’s culture, identity, values, and lived experiences while upholding HCBS principles. This training emphasizes that culturally responsive care is a core part of person-centered practice and essential to promoting dignity, respect, and meaningful inclusion in community living environments.
Participants will learn how culture influences communication styles, routines, food preferences, relationships, spirituality, and decision-making, and how staff can adapt daily support in ways that are respectful and individualized. The session highlights practical strategies for recognizing personal biases, building trust with individuals and families, and supporting choice in ways that reflect each person’s values.
Grounded in HCBS language and expectations, this training connects culturally responsive practices to individual rights, autonomy, community integration, and person-centered planning. Staff will leave with a clearer understanding of how to create supportive environments where individuals feel seen, valued, and respected for who they are.
